Structure and process of child consultation

You will be assisted through all aspects of the child-inclusive mediation. The first port of call is your FDRP – Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, who will guide and direct you to your child consultant. It will usually take between one to two weeks to organize your appointment. It is important that the child consultant understands each parent’s point of view in regard to their child therefore they are both offered an individual interview. The next step is to see the child/ren. The last step is the feedback meeting with the child consultant and your FDRP. This is essential as the FDRP will be in the position to help you mediate an outcome based on the direct input of the child consultant. Once the child consultant provides the feedback to both parents, they leave you with your FDRP practitioner to negotiate the details. This will be assisted by a short form report which will provide you with the main points of the child consultation as well as the recommendations.
